Overview into IXD302
So on Monday we got an overview and Welcome into one of our modules, that will be taken by Chris each week. This is our “Creative Entrepreneurship” module. This module seems to be very business based from what we have been told. If I work hard on this module, by the end of this year I hope to have a digital product, that I could advertise and sell on my own promotional website. To be successful in this module I will need to cover Benchmarking and Strategy, Visual Grammar voice and tone, Content design and copywriting and element collages and prototypes. I will also need to have a good understanding of what a digital product is.
A simple formal definition would be that a digital product is created in a digital format to be used on computers and other electronic devices and is not tangible otherwise.
I don’t really like to offer just formal definitions though as they sometimes offer very little. So from a marketing point of view:
- A digital product is a monetisation of your time, knowledge and effort. It is how “new money” is made and many people who do it correctly are becoming very rich from it.
- A digital product is superior to a physical product in many ways. You only create it once (you can offer updates though) and it can be sold to hundreds, thousands or even millions of persons without no limit. This ensures a certain level of profitability.
- You can create an entire online business/blog around selling digital products.
- They can be eBooks, audio, graphics, whitepapers, software, photographs and much more.
If you are thinking of creating a digital product and marketing it, then you are definitely on a innovative path way to success. It’s just how much you want to reap the benefits and the time you are willing to put in.
What might we make?
So there are a number of digital products that I could consider making such as:
ICON SETS AND ILLUSTRATIONS- Designing icons that fit together
UI KITS- Refactoring UI
SITE MAP KIT- Diagrams and help for webpages
BOOKS- Probably not the best idea but a tutorial book
COURSES/TUTORIALS- Design Academy, offering help with design.
GUM ROAD- Selling products/goods.
